The Power of Word

The use of words is so important in the way we write and can make all the difference. The words we use shape the reader's thoughts and can make or break a piece of work. There are many ways in which to use words such as figurative language, similes, metaphors, imagery, allusion, denotation, and connotation. For example, J.K. Rowling very carefully chooses words to imply meanings and form the tone in the Harry Potter series. Who would have continued reading the series if there weren't all those fun, new words with personification and imagery? Oh, and food; word choices such as Bertie Bot's Every Flavored Jelly Beans and Mrs. Weasley's interesting concoctions certainly made all the difference.

I love Harry Potter! I would've probably read the books even if they were boring (but I'm really glad they're not).

I agree, part of the charm of the series were the fabulous vocab choices of Ms. Rowling. Good job.

I agree. Her writing probably wouldn't be very good without those words.

I liked it best when she made up words, or simply picked ones that sparkled on the page... simply magical.

(sorry. that was uncalled for :)

J.K. Rowling is brilliant. I find it incredible that so many names and terms in Harry Potter have so much background in reference to mythology and other outside sources. I love Harry!
